Breaking Up Is Hard To Do

This week’s TMI Tuesday idea is from Heelsnstocking
1. What’s the worst reason you have been given for breaking up?
I've been in very few relationships and only been involved in one breakup. It was nothing out of the ordinary.
2. What’s the worst reason you gave, to someone, for breaking up?
I've never had to break up with a partner.
3. Have you ever engineered the end of a relationship e.g doing something you know will put the other person off? If yes, what did you do?
Not exactly a "relationship", but I worked with a guy that just wouldn't leave me alone....he constantly asked me out. He was three years younger than I was, which when you're young is a lot. He used lines on me like "So....what are you doing for the next 50 years?" Ugh. I took pity on him and agreed to go out after work once...then I realized he wasn't old enough to get into the bar, so we had milkshakes instead! What a mistake that was - then I couldn't get rid of him. Everywhere I went, he showed up. I didn't want to hurt his feelings, so I tried to be just awful so he'd give up, but it didn't work. Finally he was horribly rude to one of my friends trying to stake out "his" territory and I snapped and let him have it and told him in no uncertain terms to leave me alone. I was finally free...but I felt terrible and ended up quitting my job over it.
4. Have you ever stayed with a partner just because you could not bear to end it?
Sigh. I guess that's where I am in my marriage now. It's actually not that I can't bear for it to end. I know and have accepted that it has to end - and I'm fine with that - but I am not yet strong enough to execute. The fallout will be great and I don't have the courage I'll need to deal with that backlash yet.
5. Have you ever encouraged a friend to end a relationship? What happened? Are you still friends?
I have a friend right now that has a husband that doesn't treat her well at all. She is part of a very tight-knit family and he is not only unkind to her, but he is also makes no effort to be part of her family or to get along with her young adult children (from a previous marriage) - in fact, he makes them feel almost unwelcome in their home. I told her outright when she confided in me that I think she deserves much better, but that she is the only one that can make that determination and that I'd support her regardless of her choices. I'd never push someone to make changes they are not ready to make.
Bonus: Have you ever been the cause of a relationship to end? Tell us about it.
No...and I hope never to be.

Good answers overall, but we found your answer to #3 alternately cute, funny, and even a little scary. We've both dealt with unwanted affections in our single days, and can relate to this story quite a bit. Happy TMI Tuesday!
ReplyDeletewent out for a milkshake :), can't believe you had to quit your job over a cling-on.
ReplyDeleteFab answers and completely with you on #4 hugs x
